Of Dumb Pigs and Fax Machines

When fax machines came about in 1988, I was asking myself, what are they? I used to see these ads behind buses that advertises on Fax machines (from NEC back then). A bit more reading led me to understand that fax machines actually transmits a copy of the information that you put in to another person on the other line. It basically reads the data on physical paper, codes it into digital language and streams it through the phone lines to be decoded by another fax machine and then prints it on paper. Pretty nifty stuff there!

But I am sure there are indeed people out there who thinks the same way as pig...sigh
